Our school recognizes that in order to successfully prepare students for an ever-evolving and increasingly dynamic technological society, we must remain in active stride with the latest trends in technology as they pertain to high-quality teaching and learning. To this end, IST invests heavily in the continuous advancement of the facilities, technologies, and educational programs that are necessary to ensure that our students develop the skills and dispositions required to function effectively in a world that uses state-of-the-art technologies.
IST Board of Governors Strategy 2025, Goal #4:
Our school will accentuate and elevate computational and innovative thinking competencies through the use of cutting-edge technologies, including Extended Reality (XR-AR/VR/MR) and media communication tools.
Our IB inquiry-based programs provide students from KG3 to Grade 12 with a wide range of technological experiences, including general computing and computer coding skills, food science, robotics, and both digital and product design. As students advance through the grade levels, they are exposed to increasingly challenging and sophisticated immersive learning experiences, including Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality. Students master the skills to create engaging AR experiences, model the school campus in VR and build immersive visualizations to tell compelling stories with data.
IST’s stunning two-level Design Centre includes a machine room, CAD studio, green screen and audio recording studio, two computer science labs, two Maker-Spaces, and a robotics studio. The center is fully equipped with a wide range of both traditional and state-of-the-art technologies, including wood and metal work stations and tools, 3D printers, laser cutters, CAD workstations, all sorts of robots, iMac Computers, and the latest interactive LED screens for teaching.
IST is acknowledged as a regional leader in adopting XR technologies to transform teaching and learning. Our students helped found the “Global Association for Immersive Learning Advancement” (GAILA), the world’s only formal association dedicated to promoting the purposeful use of immersive technologies in school-based learning and pedagogy. Our commitment to exposing students to the latest technological hardware, software, and real-world application means that our students can engage not only with established content in digitally immersive environments but also actively inquire into and create exciting original content. IST’s impressive Immersive Learning Lab is fully equipped with complete class sets of both HoloLens 2 (MR) and Meta Quest 2 (VR) headsets.
In addition to the Design Center’s green screen and recording studio, IST also boasts a fully equipped student media broadcasting studio that facilitates the provision of student-led media communications experiences, including livestream broadcasting. Our MIST studio provides students in with hands-on experience as livestream engineers, sound and lighting engineers, camera and teleprompter operators, content editors, anchors, and reporters. MIST also provides students with opportunities to develop leadership skills by offering tiered leadership roles like student supervisor and director.
All secondary classrooms at IST are equipped with digital projectors, while Elementary homerooms and most specialist classes have interactive whiteboards. Elementary students also have 1:1 iPads provided by the school, along with banks of iMacs for each KG3-Grade 2 shared room and class sets of laptops for Grade 3-5 shared rooms. Secondary students also have access to a collection of the latest iPad Pros, especially for learning experiences associated with Augmented Reality and related software but are required to provide their own laptops for general schoolwork. IST also boasts complete class sets of the latest HoloLens 2 (MR) and Meta Quest 2 (VR) headsets. Our impressive Library and Information Literacy Center also hosts the school’s tech support service counter, which is staffed by IT technicians throughout the school day.
