The IB Diploma (DP) is a 2-year course of study offered to Grade 11-12 students leading to final examinations and a highly esteemed university matriculation qualification.
The six subject groups are:
Students select 1 subject from each group (6), including 3 subjects at Higher Level (HL) and 3 at Standard Level (SL). Students may choose not to study an ‘Arts’ subject, and instead choose an additional option from within one of the other 5 groups.
The 3 elements of the DP ‘Core’ [Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Extended Essay (EE), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS)] aim to broaden each student’s educational experience and challenges them to meaningfully apply their knowledge and skills.
At IST we are aware that the IB DP may not suitable for all students and therefore we also offer the IST Diploma, a fully accredited course of study equivalent to a US High School Diploma.
Over the past 20 years our Seniors have consistently and easily exceeded IB world averages with respect to general pass rates (98% versus 79%) and average diploma points awarded (36/45 points versus 30/45). Over the past five years our students have achieved a 100% pass rate, with an average score of 37 points, including 6 perfect 45 point diplomas amongst 102 students (i.e., 1 in 17 students versus the world average of 1 in 500!) IST is ranked in the top 10 IB schools in China (out of 160+ schools) and in the top 100 world-wide (out of 3000+ schools).
The IB-DP is recognized and respected by the world’s leading universities, and evidence indicates that more IB students go on to university and higher education study than non-IB students. IST students are routinely accepted into leading universities around the world, with recent acceptances including, Cornell University (USA), Seoul National University (Korea), HK University of Science and Technology (China/HK), University of Melbourne (Australia), University of Cambridge (UK), and many others.
